Guidance Department Services

Guidance Counseling services are available to all students, teachers, and parents at Powder Mill Middle School.
Primary responsibilities include the following:

1. To provide individual and group counseling services to students which enables them to understand the developmental changes occurring at this level.

2. To monitor all students' academic progress.

3. To help students understand their emotional and social development and its effect upon their lives.

To help students understand the world of work so that they may begin to explore areas of occupational interest.

4. To help students understand the world of work so that they may begin to explore areas of occupational interest.

5. To work with teaching teams to provide quality education for children.

6. To work with parents and social agencies as appropriate to foster student improvement.

7. To be a resource for parents regarding problems about their child.

8. To work with the Special Needs Department  coordinating the referral process and to be in attendance for and participate in all T.E.A.M. evaluations of the school.

9. Develop, organize, and interpret results of appropriate testing programs required by the State and District as well as those used by the school for its special purposes.

10. Maintain pupil permanent record folders and files.

11. Coordinate effectively the transfer, scheduling, and placement of new students.

12. Coordinate effectively the placement or retention of students from level to level.

13. Organize and implement appropriate orientation programs for incoming 5th graders and outgoing 8th graders.

14. To coordinate among parents, students, teachers, and administrators appropriate individual educational programs for the benefit of the student.
