Woodland is one of the largest elementary schools in Western Massachusetts. We are located off route 57 in Southwick, MA. Our current enrollment is approximately 650 students in preschool through fourth grade, with an average class size of 21.

We offer a full range of academic programs within a supportive and challenging environment and hold high expectations for all students. Our staff understands that children have unique learning styles and offers varied  methods of instruction to accommodate the needs of all learners.

Academic support is provided through Title 1, Special Education, Reading Recovery, and Literacy Group. We have adopted a comprehensive approach to literacy throughout our school that includes Reader's Workshop, Writer's Workshop, and Word Study. Accelerated Reader is available in our intermediate classrooms.

In addition to their regular classroom programs, students enjoy time each week in art, music, physical education, library, the computer lab and KEY, a school-wide enrichment program. Art instruction encompasses the elements of design, drawing, painting, crafts, 3-dimentional art and print making. The music program teaches basic skills in singing, reading music, playing instruments, acting and dancing. It provides a valuable means of creative expression and enables insightful connections to be made with ideas from other disciplines. In physical education students learn the importance of cooperation, teamwork, fitness and good health. The Woodland library has over thirteen  thousand titles and is staffed by a full time librarian. Classes are provided time to listen to fine literature, borrow a favorite book and/or explore a new genre. Our computer lab is equipped with twenty five networked computers. Students learn a full range of basic computing skills from keyboarding to engaging in multi-media presentations used to present their own bodies of work.

Parent volunteers play a vital role in our school assisting teachers and students in classrooms throughout Woodland. Together we can make a difference. I invite you to become a member of our learning community. If you would like more information about our school please do not hesitate to contact us.
